The employees of the Nature Protection and Mining Inspection Body (EPMIB) of the Republic of Armenia, during supervisory inspections carried out in the Lori region, discovered and prevented another case of illegal use of surface water resources.

The violation was recorded in a fish farm belonging to an individual entrepreneur operating in the Saratovka settlement of the Tashir community.

Water Withdrawal Without Permission from an Adjacent Stream

According to the official statement released by the inspection body, the economic operator, lacking the water use permit (WUP) required by law, self-willedly laid a pipeline from a natural stream flowing through the adjacent area to ensure the water supply for the fish farm. In this manner, illegal water withdrawal was carried out, violating the requirements of the RA Water Legislation.

Response of the Inspection Body

Regarding the incident, the head of the Lori regional department of EPMIB made an immediate decision:

• Cessation of water use: The process of illegal water withdrawal was completely suspended.
• Sealing of the pipeline: The illegal pipeline transferring water from the stream was sealed on the spot by the inspection body to prevent further operation.

The Nature Protection and Mining Inspection Body reminds that using water resources without appropriate permits entails legal liability, and similar inspections in the regions will be continuous.
