A rare bird of prey listed in Armenia's Red Book — a griffon vulture — was found in a helpless state in the Vayots Dzor region and transported to the rehabilitation clinic at Yerevan Zoo.
According to the Environmental Protection and Mining Inspection Body of the Republic of Armenia, at around 13:25 on September 29, the 112 Operational Management Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs received a report that a citizen had spotted a bird of prey unable to fly in the area known as the Noravank crossroads. Inspectors who arrived at the scene confirmed that it was a griffon vulture, a species listed in the Red Book. An external examination found no injuries on the bird.
Later that same day, at around 18:00, the wild bird was transported to the rehabilitation clinic at Yerevan Zoo, where it will receive the necessary care and efforts will be made to support its recovery and rehabilitation.
The griffon vulture is a rarely encountered, protected species in Armenia, whose population in the country is limited and vulnerable — due to both poisoning and the shrinking of its natural habitat. In cases like this, a swift response and transport to a specialized clinic play a significant role in improving the bird's chances of survival.
